New Albany, Gahanna Police Announce 2nd Annual Joint Citizen Police Academy

Classes held each Wednesday, from January 17 – March 14

The New Albany and Gahanna police departments are jointly planning their second joint Citizen Police Academy. This is a fantastic opportunity for residents who are interested in learning what it is like to be a police officer. Those who sign up for this free ten-week course must be 18 or older and plan to attend at least eight of the ten classes. Class times will occur 7-9 pm every Wednesday from January 17 to March 14, 2018. Classes will primarily take place at the New Albany public service building (7800 Bevelhymer Road).

Classes, some of which will occur in a classroom style and others which are field exercises and simulations, include:

  • Traffic and OVI Enforcement
  • Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure
  • Firearms Training/Active Shooter Scenarios
  • Crime Scene Investigation
  • Emergency Dispatching
  • Shoot, Don’t Shoot Judgment Scenarios
  • Street Drug Identification

  • In consideration of the benefits that I will receive from my participation in the New Albany Police Citizen Police Academy, I do hereby release the City of New Albany, it’s Police Officers, Public Officials, Agents, Servants, and employees from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions and causes of action which I may hereafter have on account of any and all injuries and damage to me or to my property, or my death, arising out of or related to any happening or occurrence while I am participating in the academy. For the same consideration, I agree to forever hold the City of New Albany and said persons harmless from any such liability, claims, demands, action or causes of action.

    The terms hereof shall be in full force and effect during the period of my participation in the New Albany Police Department Citizen Police Academy.
