In celebration of National Public Works Week, today we're spotlighting our Right-of-Way (ROW) crew! What’s Right-of-Way, you ask? It’s a legal passage over another's land, designated for roads, railways, or utility easements for services like gas, electric, or water. “We view ourselves as the protectors of the City’s utilities,” explained Maintenance Supervisor Jordan Gambill. “A lot of what we do is contractor management. Most of that management stems from our ROW permits that we receive from utility companies who want to install new or upgrade their existing utility.”One fun fact: In 2023, the City of New Albany issued 59 ROW permits through the end of April. This year through April, the City has issued 93. That’s a 58% increase! We are grateful for the important work they do!#NewAlbanyOhio #NPWW... See MoreSee Less

In celebration of National Public Works Week, we’re shining a spotlight on our dedicated forestry crew! Did you know that in 2023 alone, our team planted 171 trees across the City of New Albany?“An interesting fact about our division is that forestry requires us to know not only about trees but also insects, fungi, soil chemistry and more! We can identify over a hundred species of trees each with their own insect pests, fungal diseases, and habitat requirements,” shared City Forester Marylou Hoessle. An upcoming project the forestry team is currently working on is more planting.“Even though spring planting season is over, we are already preparing for fall planting season by selectively removing dead or dying trees, grinding the stumps, improving the soil, and selecting the appropriate tree replacement. Each year we plant approximately 90 street trees as part of our annual street tree replacement program," said Hoessle.A heartfelt thank you to our forestry crew for all their hard work to ensure New Albany remains vibrant and beautiful. 🌳#NewAlbanyOhio #NPWW...
