Car Break-ins on Rise in Central Ohio

Car break-ins are on the rise in central Ohio in August, including six vehicle or garage break-ins in New Albany. Specific areas where these break-ins have occurred include area parks, the New Albany Country Club, the Links subdivision and the Lambton Park area. UPDATE: POLICE HAVE ISSUED A FELONY ARREST WARRANT FOR BRADLEY GREEN IN ONE OF THESE BREAK-INS. IF YOU KNOW OF BRADLEY GREEN’S WHEREABOUTS PLEASE CALL NAPD AT 614-855-1234; IF YOU SEE A CRIME TAKING PLACE AND BELIEVE SOMEONE TO BE IN IMMINENT DANGER PLEASE CALL 9-1-1 IMMEDIATELY.

“We think many of the break-ins throughout central Ohio are happening because of two suspects and we are working with multiple police agencies to apprehend them,” said New Albany Police Sergeant Curtis Baker. “In most cases, purses or other items were in plain view in vehicles or garages. In some cases, garage doors were left open or vehicles were left unlocked. In others, vehicles were locked but items or purses were left in plain view.”

Baker had safety tips for everyone to consider:

  • Don’t keep valuables in plain view in your vehicle.
  • Lock your vehicle doors.
  • Don’t leave garage door openers in vehicles left outside your home.
  • Set home alarms if you have them.
  • Lock your home doors and windows.
  • Don’t leave your garage doors open.
