Message Regarding Veterans Day Ceremony

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the City of New Albany’s Veterans Day ceremony and Veterans Memorial groundbreaking will no longer take place on Saturday, November 11, 2023. We look forward to celebrating this event with our community at a future date and appreciate the service and sacrifice of all our veterans.

The decision to cancel this Saturday’s ceremony was a difficult one for us to make. The groundbreaking for a new Veterans Memorial was going to be the highlight of the event, but that project unexpectedly had to be placed on hold. There is now some uncertainty regarding potential development in the area near the proposed Veterans Memorial, requiring us to postpone the project. However, the City of New Albany and our City Council remain committed to constructing a memorial that will be a fitting tribute to our veterans.

Even though the Veterans Day ceremony and groundbreaking will not be taking place, the City of New Albany has plans to once again work with Plain Township to fund the purchase of wreaths to be placed on veteran graves through the Wreaths Across America campaign. We encourage the community to take part in the event with us on December 16 at noon in Maplewood Cemetery. You can learn more here: https://bit.ly/47qtnBU
