The Plain Township Fire Department has jurisdiction over the vast majority of our residential areas and the Franklin County portions of the New Albany International Business Park. The Monroe Township Fire Department and the West Licking Joint Fire District serve the Licking County portions of our business park. All three provide mutual aid to ensure the safety of our entire community, and we thank them all for their incredible work!
The Plain Township Fire Department provides comprehensive Fire and EMS services to Plain Township and the City of New Albany. Established in 1943 as a volunteer department, it has grown to include over 40 full-time firefighter paramedics who responded to 2,876 fire and EMS calls in 2023. In addition to emergency response, the department is dedicated to community safety through fire prevention programs, fire safety education, Safety Town, car seat inspections, and other valuable services.
The Monroe Township Fire Department (MTFD) services 68 square miles, including Monroe, Jersey, Liberty, and McKean townships, as well as the cities of Johnstown and New Albany. MTFD provides fire suppression, EMS, rescue, hazmat responses, and safety training. They respond to about 2,700 runs annually, 80% of which are EMS. The department is staffed by full-time, intermittent, and volunteer personnel, and maintains a fleet including fire engines, ambulances, and a hazmat truck. MTFD also offers fire safety, extinguisher, and CPR training for residents and businesses upon request.
The West Licking Joint Fire District provides fire suppression, emergency medical services, and rescue operations to the communities of Pataskala and Kirkersville, as well as surrounding areas including portions of New Albany. With a fleet of advanced fire engines, medic units, and rescue vehicles, the District is staffed by a dedicated team of full-time and part-time firefighters and paramedics, delivering 24/7 service. Formed in 1982 from two historic fire departments, WLJFD continues its mission of protecting lives, property, and promoting community safety.
