Service crews collect leaves raked into piles at the curb or in the tree line. Trucks pulling leaf vacuum machines will pass each New Albany home.

Overview

The 2024 Leaf Collection Program runs October 1-December 1. On October 1, crews will start in Zone 1 and will move through the city in sequential order. Plan to have your leaves raked to the back of the curb by the Monday of your scheduled zone week.

We have divided the city into 9 zones for leaf collection. Click the “interactive map” button below to access a map that shows the leaf collection progress across the 9 zones. You can also enter your street on the leaf zone map to see where crews are and if they have completed leaf pickup on your street.

Service crews collect leaves that have been raked into piles at the curb or in the tree line. Trucks pulling leaf vacuum machines will pass each New Albany home to collect leaves at least five times and collect roughly one million pounds of leaves.

Guidelines

Please rake leaves to the end of your yard but not in the street and not in public island areas around your home.
Avoid placing leaf piles near mailboxes, trees, lights, signs or shared public areas.
No branches, twigs or grass clippings will be collected, only leaves.
Leaves under or behind parked cars cannot be collected. Avoid parking in the street until after leaves have been collected.
Help us keep everyone SAFE. Kids should never play in leaves piled along the roadway. Motorists and public service crews cannot see children hidden in leaves.
Place leaves at the curb before 7:00 AM on the Monday of each collection period. The Public Service Department cannot guarantee collection of leaves placed at the curb after this time for the given collection period.
Please keep leaves out of storm water sewers and stream banks. Leaves cause bacteria that depletes oxygen and can kill fish and other stream organisms.
Leaves can be collected during scheduled yard waste collection dates if they are placed in paper yard waste bags or in a container marked “yard waste.” Residents can also drop off leaves in paper bags at the public service facility at 7800 Bevelhymer Rd. from October 1 through December 1. You may also choose to keep light clippings and mulched leaves on your lawn to build better soil.
Weather can impact the leaf collection schedule. Every effort will be made to collect leaves from your street on the scheduled day.
Leaves will not be collected from private streets, open spaces, or the business park areas.

Missed a Collection?

Please wait until the next weekly collection pass as a courtesy to other neighborhoods. Crews can not return to a street after they have completed a pass.

Residents can also drop off leaves at the public service facility at 7800 Bevelhymer Rd. from October 1 through December 1. You may bag leaves in paper bags and take them to this location in addition to or in place of having them picked up in the street by the city crews.

Alternate Disposal Options

The New Albany Leaf Collection Program is intended only to collect leaves that have been properly bunched and placed at the curb within the right-of-way for disposal during a two month period from mid-October to early December. There is a very small window of opportunity to collect the leaves from the time they fall until winter weather begins. Once the leaves are covered by snow or are frozen, the leaf vacuum machine cannot collect them and service crews must attend to snow removal operations.

Other Options

Residents can drop off leaves at the public service facility at 7800 Bevelhymer Rd. from October 1 through December 1. Residents may bag their leaves in paper bags and take them to this location in addition to or in place of having them picked up in the street by the city crews.
Residents can utilize New Albany’s weekly Rumpke yard waste collection service by placing leaves in biodegradable bags or containers labeled “yard waste” and placing them at the curb.
Residents can use a mulching lawnmower and mulch leaves back into the lawn. This provides nutrients for the soil. You can also place leaves in and around plant beds and under trees and shrubs. This provides nutrients for the soil and insulates plants.
