New Albany Strategic Plan
Guiding New Albany's Future
Our community is built on an unparalleled commitment to lifelong learning, health & wellness, arts & culture, and environmental sustainability. We work closely with residents and businesses as well as the best land planners, developers, architects, builders, and engineers to achieve our shared vision.
More than 1,300 residents participated in the Engage New Albany strategic plan process during a 21-month period. The plan, formally approved by City Council at their meeting on March 16, 2021, helps lay the foundation for our future residential and commercial efforts, recognize important future road and trail networks, and create new community gathering places for all of us to enjoy. Our community is built on an unparalleled commitment to lifelong learning, healthy living, culture, leisure and commerce. We work closely with residents and businesses as well as the best land planners, developers, architects, builders and engineers to achieve our shared vision.
Since the adoption of the Engage New Albany Strategic Plan, additional agreements with the city of Columbus have extended New Albany’s centralized water and sanitary sewer service areas to the north and east. This plan, formally approved by City Council at their meeting on April 19, 2022, responsibly plans for the future of the Northeast New Albany expansion area and its future incorporation into the city.Â
US-62 Interchange Focus Area Plan
The US-62 Interchange Focus Area Plan is a key policy guide for City Council, boards and commissions, and staff as they evaluate future land use and development along this important corridor. Similar to the Strategic Plan, this plan will also provide focused recommendations for character, scale, location, and extent of public investments and private development throughout the study area. The plan was adopted by City Council on September 16, 2025.

Park Plans and Studies
It first became apparent in 2019 that upgrading the City of New Albany’s parks network was important to the community. City staff received many park-related comments from residents while conducting outreach for Engage New Albany, the City’s five-year strategic plan. That feedback highlighted the need for New Albany’s existing public parks to be examined and studied for potential improvements. Throughout 2020, staff worked with residents and community groups, such as the New Albany Joint Parks District, to create a Parks Framework Plan.
The Parks Framework Plan includes an assessment of the City’s current parks and equipment, analysis of the accessibility of the City’s parks and trail network, and recommendations for improvements for each neighborhood park. The recommended improvements include updated playground equipment, building accessible features so people of all abilities can use the playgrounds, and amenities such as seating and landscaping.
