Harlem Road Reconstruction Project

The City is thrilled to announce the start of the South Harlem Roadway Improvements project. The project will include a minor widening of the roadway, the installation of a separated leisure trail along the east side of the road, and substantial ditch and stormwater drainage improvements.

Complete General Construction started breaking ground on Monday, July 8, beginning with a closure at James River Road and South Harlem Road to facilitate pavement removal and the installation of a proposed median island. Detours have been posted to navigate the closure (please see below). Traffic flow will change over time as the project will be built in multiple phases. Residents will always have access to their property and public notices will be distributed by hand to affected residents with updates regularly posted on the website. The project will reach substantial completion by December 1, 2024 with some minor restoration work occurring in Spring of 2025.
