Women's Self-Defense

Empower yourself with the New Albany Police Department’s four-part women’s self-defense course, led by Officers Leland Kelly, Emilee Downing, and Probation Officer Amy Boyd. This program is open to females 14-years-of-age or older who are interested in obtaining self-defense training and understanding the options they have when encountering sexual assault, harassment, domestic violence or other types of crime. The class covers:

  • Current statistics
  • Laws
  • Common crimes of choice
  • Awareness
  • Self-defense tactics
  • Risk recognition

This high-impact course teaches easy-to-use self-defense techniques, not martial arts. The department has offered this free, multi-day course to more than 1,000 women. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Classes run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on June 3, 4, 10 and 11 at the New Albany Police Department. Call 614-855-1234 or email Officer Emilee Downing at edowning@newalbanypolice.org for more information.
