2024 Trick or Treat Scheduled for October 31

We know the forecast for rain and wind has many of you wondering about Trick-or-Treat plans, and we’ve received several requests to change the date. After careful consideration, we’re sticking with our original Trick-or-Treat schedule: Thursday, October 31 from 6-8 p.m.

Part of our decision stems from the fact that a potential move to Sunday doesn’t guarantee a dry forecast, and sticking with Thursday aligns with other Franklin County communities while following the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s recommended date and time. Additionally, adjusting the date would present staffing challenges for our dedicated police officers, who work hard to ensure a safe Halloween for everyone.

Here are some Halloween safety tips to keep in mind:

Inclement Weather:

  • Keep an eye on the forecast and prepare for the weather.
  • Wear weather-appropriate costumes, and consider reflective elements for visibility.
  • Remember flashlights for added safety.

Trick or Treaters and Treat Givers

  • Trick or treat with members of your household or with a trusted adult.
  • Fasten reflective tape to costumes and bags to help drivers see you.
  • Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them. Limit the amount of treats you eat.
  • Hold a flashlight while trick-or-treating to help you see and others see you. WALK and don’t run from house to house.
  • Look both ways before crossing the street. Use crosswalks wherever possible.
  • Be sure your parents always know where you are going to trick or treat.
  • Do not ride a bicycle because your costume might get tangled in the wheels.
  • Accept treats only outside of a home. Never go into a house.

Tips for Parents

  • Turn off house lights if you are not participating this year.
  • When buying costumes, look for flame retardant material.
  • Examine all treats for choking hazards and tampering before eating them.

Tips for Drivers

  • Slow down and be especially alert in residential neighborhoods.
  • Take extra time to look for kids at intersections and on medians and curbs.
  • Enter and exit driveways and alleys slowly and carefully.
  • Eliminate any distractions inside your car so you can concentrate on the road and surroundings.
  • Drive slowly, anticipate heavy pedestrian traffic and turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances.
