City of New Albany Receives Clean Audit for 2023

New Albany, Ohio – The City of New Albany is pleased to announce that its 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) has received an “unmodified” opinion from the Ohio Auditor of State. This “clean” audit is a significant accomplishment, especially given the challenges of increased staffing, new program implementations, and a substantial increase in grant funding and capital projects.

A key milestone in 2023 was the completion of a federal compliance audit, a requirement triggered by federal grant funding received through the State of Ohio for Intel infrastructure and Safety funds for the US-62/SR-161 Phase 2 project. The federal compliance audit is more rigorous than a typical financial audit, requiring more extensive testing of internal controls. Despite the increased scrutiny, the City successfully spent $40.6 million in federal funds without any findings, management letter comments, or verbal recommendations.

“This clean audit is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our city staff,” said Director of Finance Bethany Staats. “It reflects our commitment to financial transparency and accountability.”
