New Albany has an income tax rate of 2.0% on all individual earned income and corporate net profits. Please note that the tax does not apply to investment earnings and retirement income. The city provides residents with a 100% credit (up to 2.0%) for income taxes paid to other municipalities.
New Albany is a member of an income tax collection consortium – the Regional Income Tax Agency (RITA). Issues and questions regarding income tax filings may be directed to RITA at 1-800-860-7482.
RITA recently mailed non-filing letters to New Albany taxpayers who neglected to file a municipal income tax return or exemption. If you received this letter, RITA does not have record of a municipal income tax filing or exemption from you for the tax year(s) listed in the letter and RITA did not receive a response from you to the Non-Filing Income Tax Notice that was sent to you. Taxpayers can simply e-file returns to RITA at www.ritaohio.com, or by mailing or faxing the documents listed on the non-filing letter back to RITA. Those with questions can call RITA at 1-800-860-7482.
Property taxes, which are based on the local tax rate (in mills) and the taxable value of the property, are critical to schools, townships and county-wide service agencies. For 2023, the Franklin County Auditor determined annual property taxes for City of New Albany households to be $2,009.02 per $100,000 fair market value based upon the mills for Tax District 222 – City of New Albany, Franklin County, New Albany Plain Local Schools, Plain Township Fire. (This millage rate does not include the 1.95 mills paid by most New Albany residents to the New Albany Community Authority for debt on the New Albany High School building, Fodor Road improvements, and fire station improvements and equipment.)

New Albany has a mandatory filing requirement for all individuals who live within the city limits, as well as businesses operating within corporate boundaries. Businesses should withhold the appropriate city tax on wages for their employees as part of the payroll process. These withholdings are then remitted to RITA on behalf of New Albany.
For individuals filing on a calendar year (Jan-Dec) basis, April 15 is the due date for mailing their tax return along with any additional taxes owed. For businesses filing on a non-calendar fiscal basis, the due date is the 15th day of the fourth month following the end of their fiscal year. For example, October 15 would be the due date for businesses having a June fiscal year-end.
Are you a New Albany resident? Even though you may have a New Albany mailing address, it is possible that you could reside in Plain Township or the City of Columbus and not be subject to New Albany income tax. The Ohio Department of Taxation has an online database of all municipal address information which can used to confirm your correct jurisdiction for local tax purposes.
