Preliminary work is underway on Rose Run Phase II, marking an important milestone in the expansion of Rose Run Park and the creation of New Albany’s new Veterans Memorial. This long-anticipated project, located between Village Hall and the New Albany Police Department, will provide a meaningful space dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of our veteran community.

  • Village Hall Road will be closed to through traffic April 16–24 as crews complete key environmental improvements while preparing the site for future park amenities. Temporary Village Hall and New Albany Police Department parking will be located south of Village Hall Road. Village Hall parking can be accessed from the 153 W. Main Street parking lot while NAPD parking can be accessed from Reynoldsburg-New Albany Road.
  • In February, a contracted tree-care company began removing invasive species, along with dead and diseased trees, within the stream corridor.
  • More visible tree clearing began in early March. This work will improve stream health, restore native habitat, and support construction of the new park amenities planned as part of Rose Run Park Phase II.
  • Ahead of demolition, the Plain Township Fire Department is using the former gas station and former police station (most recently a driving school) near W. Main St. and E. Granville St. for training exercises. There will be no live fires, but you may see firefighters on site, including on rooftops, as they conduct drills.

The Veterans Memorial

In order to create a unique Veterans Memorial for New Albany, the City of New Albany worked with landscape architect MKSK and a focus group composed of New Albany residents, veterans, and veterans’ advocates. The Veterans Memorial will feature a heroes walk, a contemplative plaza, a life-size sculpture that pays tribute to Gold Star mothers, and a water feature designed to create a peaceful setting for reflection, remembrance, and gratitude.

A New Chapter

This project is made possible in part through a generous two-acre land donation from The New Albany Company. The property, which is formerly home to the police station and a gas station, allows the City to expand Rose Run Park in a way that reflects New Albany’s core values of lifelong learning, health and wellness, arts and culture, and environmental sustainability.

As this next chapter begins, the City remains deeply grateful to the veterans who have served our nation. The Veterans Memorial will stand as a lasting tribute that honors their legacy and serves future generations for years to come. The project is expected to be complete in late fall 2027.
