The New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society spent several years restoring the Ealy House at 6359 Dublin-Granville Road, a mid-nineteenth-century building reflective of historical development in the area. This museum currently houses collections of local artifacts including items from a doctor’s office, children’s toys, farming tools, and a working foot-pumped organ. A historical marker in front of the house was dedicated on Founders Day 2010.
The New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society was founded in 1975 to bring together people interested in local history and to help members of the community achieve an understanding of this history through the collection and preservation of artifacts, documents, and oral accounts. The NAPTHS is committed to preserving and documenting our local history for future generations, at a time when Plain Township is rapidly evolving from rural farming community to upscale suburb.
Some examples of the Society’s activities are participation in the annual Founders Day Celebration (started by the Historical Society in 1976 as part of the nation’s Bicentennial), school and club tours of the Ealy House Museum, helping with high school student community service requirements and senior seminars, and the creation of a Heritage Quilt depicting 1800s-era Plain Township in folk art applique. There are many volunteer opportunities and your interest and participation is welcome.
