Healthy New Albany, Rose Run Presbyterian Church, elected state officials, City of New Albany leaders, and community supporters gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking for the new Healthy New Albany Food Pantry.
The new facility will be built on the campus of Rose Run Presbyterian Church, with a dedicated entrance on Harlem Road. It will provide Healthy New Albany with the space and resources needed to better serve families now and in the future. Planned features include expanded cold storage for fresh foods, a larger grocery-store-style client-choice shopping area, dedicated volunteer work areas, and improved accessibility. The facility is expected to be 8,000 to 10,000 square feet.
For 17 years, the New Albany Food Pantry has helped local families access nutritious food and essential items. In 2025 alone, the pantry served 450 unique families. During January and February 2026, 39% of the people served were children. These numbers are a reminder that food insecurity can affect families in every community.
“This project is about more than a building,” said New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding. “It represents what can happen when organizations and neighbors come together around a shared commitment to helping others.”
Rose Run Presbyterian Church has supported food-security efforts in New Albany for years, including programs that provide food to local students and families. In November 2025, the congregation approved a long-term lease for a portion of its property, providing the pantry with a permanent home. Healthy New Albany will construct and maintain the building and parking lot through community support.
The new location will replace the pantry’s current space in the New Albany-Plain Local Schools Annex Building at 79 N. High St. The pantry will continue normal operations at the Annex until construction is complete.
