Native Plant Sale

Spring is almost here — and it’s a great time to plan your planting! Our partners at the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District are hosting their annual Tree & Plant Sale, featuring a wide variety of native trees, shrubs, perennials and seed mixes. The last day to order is March 22 and pick up is April 10-11. Native plants are important because they’re adapted to our local climate, support pollinators like bees and butterflies, improve soil health, and help manage stormwater naturally.

Invasive Species Trade-In

The City of New Albany is enhancing its Invasive Species Trade-In Program with the Franklin Soil and Water Conservation District by offering an even bigger incentive to participate. Residents of the City of New Albany can now receive up to $500 for removing an invasive tree/shrub and replacing it with a new native tree/shrub!

Sustainability Advisory Board

The New Albany Sustainability Advisory Board was created in June 2021 by New Albany City Council as a direct result of recommendations included in the 2020 Engage New Albany Strategic Plan. The Sustainability Advisory Board was established to advise City Council on matters relating to sustainability, promote and communicate sustainability principles broadly among the community, and advise and assist City Council and the City Manager in efforts to make City operations more sustainable.

The Board met for the first time in November 2021 and has since been working hard to accomplish these duties. This work plan highlights the accomplishments and progress towards the Board’s 2025 priorities and outlines their goals for 2026.

Green Guardians

The New Albany Sustainability Advisory Board and New Albany City Council have expanded the city-wide composting program by collecting food waste and having food waste stations at our community events. To make this successful, the City of New Albany has recruited individuals at community events to serve as Green Guardians and volunteer at the waste station to ensure compost, recycling and trash go in the correct receptacles.

E-Waste, Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off

She is smiling and wearing a long-sleeved shirt. In the background, there are pallets and more large bins covered with black plastic bags, with a large building and parked vehicles visible.
