An overview and FAQs about proposed natural gas power projects
The City of New Albany has been notified about multiple natural gas power projects to be located within the Licking County portion of the New Albany International Business Park. These include the PowerConneX New Albany Energy Centers and the Socrates North and South Power Generation Facility Projects.
Natural gas power facilities play a critical role in supplying reliable energy to data centers, which require consistent, large-scale power to support their continuous operations. The City of New Albany anticipates other corporate partners in the New Albany International Business Park may consider similar options in the future.
The facilities from EdgeConneX, the PowerConneX New Albany Energy Centers, are natural gas-fired power generation facilities to be located in the Licking County portion of the New Albany International Business Park. The projects are being explored to provide a reliable, cost-effective, and efficient source of power for its data center operations while reducing dependence on external energy sources.Â
The project’s first phase completed public information meetings in early 2025 and received its certificate authorizing construction of the PowerConneX from the Ohio Power Sitting Board on July 22, 2025 (Case No. 25-90-EL-BLN). Construction for PowerConneX began in September of 2025, and EdgeConneX anticipates the facility will reach commercial operations in late 2026.Â
The proposed PowerConneX New Albany 3 Energy Center project will be holding its second public information meeting on June 2, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brick House Blue at Innovate New Albany – Water’s Edge, 7775 Walton Parkway Suite 100, New Albany, OH 43054 to provide the public with an opportunity to become informed about the project and ask questions.
Representatives from the Energy Cooperative were in the field the week of January 12, 2026 to speak with residents about the easements necessary for the natural gas pipeline associated with the PowerConnex natural gas generation project. This initial survey was to determine if adjustments and additional right-of-way will be required to complete the project.Â
The Energy Cooperative has created a website to provide general information, offer project updates, and provide contact information for residents to reach the Cooperative with questions: www.myenergycoop.com/lcp. Â
Will-Power’s proposed Socrates North and South projects are advanced power generation facilities in the Licking County portion of the New Albany International Business Park, spanning approximately 20 acres each. These projects involve two separate power generation sites, with a combined generating capacity of 400 megawatts, as each site provides 200 megawatts. These projects will help bolster Ohio’s economy, further establishing the Columbus metro area as a growing hub for technology and innovation. Â
