Political Sign Placement Guide

Political signs serve as a vital and unique form of expression. These regulations aim to address the signs’ condition, focusing not on their content, but on issues such as deterioration or potential safety hazards.

General Installation Regulations

Political signs may be erected and displayed with no limitation on time or duration subject to the following limitations:

  • Each sign shall not exceed 18×24 inches (3 square feet in area).
  • Each sign shall not exceed 4 feet in height above the ground level.
  • Signs shall not be illuminated.
  • Signs shall not be located on any public property, street or right-of-way.
  • Signs shall not be attached to any utility pole, fence, traffic sign or other structure located on public property

SIGNS ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHIN STREETS AND RIGHT OF WAY

Where is the Right-of-Way?

Generally, the right-of-way in residential and commercial areas encompass the land between the sidewalk and street. The right-of-way typically extends from the front of the horse fence to the road. If a horse fence is not present the utility poles typically define the edge of the right-of-way.

Signs removed by the city will be deposited at:

Signs will be held and can be retrieved from 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.

Additional Regulations

Homeowners associations may have more stringent sign standards than the city and may remove signs. If this occurs the owner will need to contact the respective homeowners association to retrieve these signs.
