2025 Independence Day Parade Route and Detours

As we celebrate Independence Day in New Albany, please be aware of temporary road closures and detours related to the annual 5K, parade, and fireworks. Expect delays in the Village Center and surrounding areas throughout the morning and evening. Signage and message boards will be in place to help guide motorists.

Morning & Early Afternoon Events: Independence Day 5K and Parade

Friday, July 4

  • New Albany-Condit Road (SR 605) will be closed between Chatham Green Drive and US-62 for the parade and post-event cleanup from roughly 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

  • Chatham Green Drive will also experience a temporary closure during the parade.

  • Portions of US-62 and Dublin-Granville Road will also be closed for the Independence Day 5K and parade. US-62 will be closed starting at roughly 6:30 a.m. to accomodate activities associated with the 5K.

  • These closures will affect the existing Market Street Extension detour, which currently routes motorists to US-62.

Recommended Detour

  • Northbound from Morse Road:
    • Take Morse Road to Kitzmiller Road, then head west on Walton Parkway to navigate around Village Center closures.
  • Southbound on SR-605 or US-62 from areas north of SR-161:
    • Take Walton Parkway east to Kitzmiller Road, then head west on Morse Road to navigate around Village Center closures.

Evening Events: Fireworks Traffic Management

Friday, July 4 – Post-fireworks until approximately 11:30 p.m.

  • New Albany-Condit Road (SR-605) southbound will be closed from Walton Parkway to US-62 to help manage outbound traffic after the fireworks.

  • SR-605 will remain closed south of Dublin-Granville Road. All motorists traveling south of this area should follow the posted SR-605 detours.

  • Windsor Drive will remain open at SR-605, but officers will be directing traffic and may temporarily prevent eastbound traffic from Chatham Green Drive if necessary for public safety.

General Notes

  • Electronic message boards will be used throughout the area to communicate temporary traffic changes.

  • We appreciate your patience as we work to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day for all. Please allow extra travel time and follow all posted detours and officer directions.

Important Notice: Church of the Resurrection Construction Limits for July 4th

As you plan your Independence Day festivities in New Albany, please be aware of ongoing construction at Church of the Resurrection, a traditionally popular fireworks viewing location. The church is currently undergoing a $20 million improvement project, which includes new buildings and site upgrades. As a result, several areas of the church property will be unavailable for parking or fireworks viewing on July 4. See map below. The areas in yellow will not be available for parking or viewing the fireworks.

Aerial map of 6300 E Dublin Granville Rd area with multiple yellow highlighted rectangular zones surrounding a central building with a red roof and several parking areas, nearby landmarks include Church of the Resurrection and Ealy House.

Here’s what to know:

  • The Independence Day Parade will still conclude at Church of the Resurrection, as in previous years.
  • A large portion of the church parking lot and the south lawn will be fenced off and inaccessible due to construction and safety concerns.
  • The south field, which has been a traditional spot for fireworks viewing and picnicking, will be closed and fenced off due to large dirt piles and ongoing work.
  • Please use caution if parking along Morgan Road, which is narrow and frequently used for overflow parking. New Albany Police will be monitoring the area to ensure public safety.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as Church of the Resurrection enhances its facilities to better serve the community. Please plan ahead and explore other viewing areas around Rose Run Park, the school campus, and surrounding green spaces for a safe and enjoyable fireworks experience.
