Pelotonia 2025 Rolls Through New Albany: Key Information for Residents

Pelotonia Returns to New Albany this August 2 & 3!

The City of New Albany is proud to once again welcome Pelotonia, an inspiring annual bike race dedicated to funding cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute. This incredible event brings thousands of riders and volunteers together, and a significant portion of its route will traverse our beautiful community on both Saturday, August 2, and Sunday, August 3, 2025.

While we are excited to support such a vital cause, we also want to ensure our residents are well-informed about the event’s impact on local traffic and daily routines. Your cooperation helps make Pelotonia a safe and successful experience for everyone.

Anticipated Traffic Impacts and Route Updates

To ensure the safety of Pelotonia participants and our community, temporary traffic impacts are anticipated along the race routes. We strongly encourage residents to plan ahead and consider alternative routes during these times.

Saturday, August 2: Expect Delays and Increased Traffic

Saturday is expected to be a very busy day in New Albany due to the large number of riders (approximately 4,800) and their accompanying families and friends arriving throughout the day.

  • Abercrombie & Fitch Area and SR-605 near Kardules Fields Way: We anticipate delays, particularly around the Abercrombie & Fitch area and State Route 605 near Kardules Fields Way.
  • Traffic Management: While no full road closures are planned, and measures are in place to minimize traffic concerns, some slowdowns may occur. Pelotonia will provide off-site parking at the old Discover Card lots, with shuttle services to the Abercrombie & Fitch finish area.
  • Past Experience: Last year, US-62 northbound towards Johnstown experienced hours of backup due to traffic trying to enter Abercrombie’s site off Central College. We have since implemented changes with traffic engineer assistance to allow for a more constant traffic flow in that area.
  • SR-605 and Kardules Fields Way: This area’s traffic flow has been adjusted from previous years and should flow smoothly, with riders turning right on Kardules Fields Way from SR-605.

Sunday, August 3: Important Route Change

There is an important late change to the Sunday, August 3 route due to construction at Walnut Street and Bevelhymer Road.

  • Previous Route Segment (No Longer Used): The Sunday route will no longer use Bevelhymer Road between Walnut Street and Central College Road.
  • Updated Sunday Route: Riders will now travel from Peter Hoover Road to Walnut Street, then turn onto New Albany Links Drive to Central College Road, before reconnecting with Bevelhymer Road to continue into the city.
  • New Albany Links Drive: Please be aware of increased bicycle traffic on New Albany Links Drive during this time. The Links Golf Club has been notified and may be alerting its golfers of potential delays.
  • No Road Closures: There will be no road closures on Sunday, August 3.
  • Traffic Management: Officers and deputies will be at major intersections to help manage traffic.

What Residents Can Do

  • Plan Ahead: If you need to travel during the event, especially on Saturday, August 2, please allow for extra time and familiarize yourself with alternative routes.
  • Safety First: When driving near the race route, be extra vigilant for cyclists. Maintain a safe distance and be prepared for unexpected stops. Remember, riders will have rolling support, law enforcement assistance, and SAG (Support and Gear) vehicles along the route.
  • Cheer on the Riders! Show your support for the Pelotonia riders! Find a safe spot along the route to cheer them on as they pedal for a cure. Their efforts directly impact life-saving cancer research, with over $309 million raised so far for The OSUCCC-James.
  • Stay Informed: For immediate concerns, the Pelotonia Command Center can be reached at 1-855-889-RIDE (call and text capabilities).

Emergency Services Access

Rest assured, emergency services will have full access to all areas of the city throughout the event. Plain Township EMS will provide local coverage at the New Albany Schools start/finish venue. If you have an emergency, please call 911 immediately.

Thank You for Your Cooperation!

The City of New Albany extends a heartfelt thank you to all our residents for your cooperation and understanding during the Pelotonia event. Your support helps create a safe and successful experience for the riders and contributes to the vital mission of ending cancer.
