AEP Souder Transmission Line Project

AEP Ohio representatives are upgrading the electric power grid in the New Albany area through the construction of a new substation and transmission line project in Franklin County.

The existing electrical network in this area has reached capacity. The new transmission line and substation will provide an additional power source to help ensure reliable electric service for residential and commercial customers while supporting continued economic development in the area.

Project Overview

The project includes:

  • Construction of the new Souder Substation off Souder Road in New Albany
  • Construction of just over one mile of new 138-kilovolt (kV) transmission line
  • Development of an approximate 100-foot right-of-way corridor for the transmission line
  • Acquisition of new easements to support the safe construction, operation and maintenance of the line

Project Timeline

  • Summer 2025: Project publicly announced
  • 2025: Application submitted to the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB)
  • October 2025: OPSB approval received
  • January 2026: Construction began
  • Summer 2026: Transmission line construction anticipated to conclude
  • Fall 2026: Additional substation work expected to continue

Construction Information

Construction crews began work in early 2026 and will continue through summer 2026, with additional station-related work planned into fall 2026.

Residents and motorists may notice construction activity in the project area throughout the duration of the work.
