Plan Ahead for Traffic Impacts During New Albany's Independence Day Weekend Events

The City of New Albany is preparing for a two-day Independence Day Celebration honoring America’s 250th birthday! To view the entire celebration schedule, click here.

For safety reasons, several roads, parking areas, and walking paths will be temporarily closed over the holiday weekend.

Please note: Both New Albany High School parking lots will be closed beginning the evening of July 2 and will remain secured until the conclusion of the Independence Day Parade on July 4.

Friday, July 3: Pre-Declaration Party

The Pre-Declaration Party begins at 7 p.m. in Rose Run Park and concludes with a drone show and fireworks display. Separately, the New Albany Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Hinson Amphitheater beginning at 8 p.m.

Road, trail, and parking closures and restrictions related to the Pre-Declaration Party will begin during the afternoon of July 3.

Road Closures

  • Dublin-Granville Road will be closed east of Fodor Road.
  • Dublin-Granville Road will be closed west of the eastern entrance to the Hinson Amphitheater.

Pedestrian and Trail Closures

  • A pedestrian safety fence will be installed along Dublin-Granville Road east of New Albany High School.
  • The west exit of the Hinson Amphitheater will be closed.
  • Rose Run Park walking paths west of the Raines Crossing pedestrian bridge will be closed.

Parking and Facility Restrictions

  • The northeast loop of the Heit Center parking lot will be closed.
  • Kardules Field Way will be closed.

Saturday, July 4: New Albany Independence Day 5K and Independence Day Parade

New Albany Independence Day 5K

The New Albany Independence Day 5K will begin at 8:45 a.m. Roads along the race route will be temporarily impacted beginning at 8:30 a.m. and will remain affected for the duration of the event. View the race route here.

New Albany Independence Day Parade

Road closures along the parade route begin at 10:30 a.m. on July 4. The parade will begin at 11 a.m. after the conclusion of the New Albany Independence Day 5K.

  • The New Albany Independence Day Parade will begin in the New Albany Primary School parking lot across from Chatham Green and follow its traditional route through the community. This year, the parade will conclude in the New Albany High School parking lots.
  • Parking will be available at the McCoy Center for the Arts; however, street sweeping that is planned following the parade could delay exiting the lot by about 30 minutes.
