Political signs serve as a vital and unique form of expression. These regulations aim to address the signs’ condition, focusing not on their content, but on issues such as deterioration or potential safety hazards.
General Installation Regulations
Political signs may be erected and displayed with no limitation on time or duration subject to the following limitations:
SIGNS ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHIN STREETS AND RIGHT OF WAY
Where is the Right-of-Way?
Generally, the right-of-way in residential and commercial areas encompass the land between the sidewalk and street. The right-of-way typically extends from the front of the horse fence to the road. If a horse fence is not present the utility poles typically define the edge of the right-of-way.
Removal
City staff may remove a political sign when it becomes deteriorated or is displayed in a non-compliant position.
Signs removed by the city will be deposited at:
New Albany Public Service Department located at 7800 Bevelhymer Road, New Albany, Ohio.
Signs will be held and can be retrieved from 8am – 5pm, Monday through Friday.
Additional Regulations
Homeowners associations may have more stringent sign standards than the city and may remove signs. If this occurs the owner will need to contact the respective homeowners association to retrieve these signs.
