Back To School Reminders

School is back in session on Wednesday, Aug. 19, which means it’s time to slow down and stay alert. Expect to see more students walking, biking and crossing streets throughout the community. Please use extra caution in school zones, obey posted speed limits and remember that pedestrians have the right of way in crosswalks.

As a reminder, it is illegal in all 50 states to pass a stopped school bus when its top arm is extended and red lights are flashing.

Student Parking Reminder: To help keep parking available for businesses and visitors, students are not permitted to park in Market Square during the school day. This restriction applies to all students, including those who are members of or employed by businesses in Market Square, including the Philip Heit Center. Vehicles parked in violation of the posted “Customer and Employee Only” restrictions are subject to citation.

Due to construction of the new elementary school, student parking is also limited on Swickard Woods Boulevard. Students may continue to use the public parking area near the Safety Town site or purchase a New Albany-Plain Local Schools parking pass for the Church of the Resurrection parking lot.

New Albany Police Officers will be in the area during the first several days of school to help educate students and reinforce these parking regulations. Thank you for helping keep our schools and roadways safe for everyone.
