Starting Monday, June 1, Trucco Construction will begin reconstructing SR-605 between Snider Loop and Central College Road in coordination with Steiner Builders’ Hamlet Development. The project includes wider pavement, new curbs, decorative lighting, street trees, on-street parking, utility upgrades, and removal of overhead utility lines. Crews expect to complete construction by October 31, 2026.
To complete the work, crews will close SR-605 between Snider Loop and Central College Road from June 1 through August 18. Drivers will continue to access Snider Loop. Local traffic will detour via Walton Parkway, New Albany Road East, and Central College Road, while through traffic will use US-62 and SR-37. The City of New Albany strategically planned this timeframe in an effort to reduce impacts to NAPLS bus and student traffic.
For the first week or two of construction, the leisure trail on the east side of SR-605 will remain open while the contractor performs work either within the roadway or on the west side of the corridor. At a minimum, construction fencing will separate trail users from the active work zone during this phase.
As construction progresses, the City will implement a leisure trail detour route to maintain safe access through the area. The detour will allow pedestrians and cyclists to travel a route along Central College Road to Steele Court, then to Snider Loop, Walton Parkway, and back to SR-605. This route adds only minimal distance while allowing users to remain on sidewalks and leisure trails for the entire trip.
In addition, the City will install a Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at Steele Court and Central College Road to help pedestrians safely cross Central College during the construction period. This crossing enhancement was originally identified as a recommended improvement during resident task force meetings held in 2023.
